France v Ireland - round 3

No surprise, the Irish are asking FIFA to call for a replay of the game due to the Henry hand ball. Um are you serious? Should England ask for the same to replay the 1/4 final game against Argentina in 1986? Should Australia ask for a replay of their Italy game in the 2006 World Cup for an incredibly poor decision to grant a last minute penalty? Or maybe France should petition for a replay of the 1982 World Cup semi finals when Schumacher should have been red carded...how about the Hurst goal in the 1966 World Cup finals...was it a goal or not?? Missed calls and poor referee decisions are part of the game, move on.

Take a look at Schumacher's foul on Battiston in the France v RFA match from 1982...every team suffers and gains from referee's calls it is part of footie.

I don't blame Henry for all of this. But I think maybe he should step down as captain. Maybe Gallas or Ribery could be the new captain.

So many people are blaming Henry. All over the news calling him a cheater. He just played the ball. Yeah he could of been a real hero and tell the ref what he did but that's not his job, ok what he did doesint make him a saint but nor does it make him a cheater. It was the refs fault not Henry's.

This will die down by this weekend. It might be brought up again during the tournament...by the British tabloids!

Titi is a competitor, just like the other players on the pitch from both sides. Did he do something that is not allowed by the rules of the game, absolutely. Did he play to the whistle, yes. Do illegal actions happen in a game that are not called, all the time. It is the circumstances that make this such an offense, were this a simple friendly no one would care. But that is stating the obvious!

I do not think there will be a third match. I think the Irish players showed a lot of class. But the Irish fans and Americans are showing no class at all. The true heroes are Anelka and Lloris and possibly Sagna. If only we had Trezeguet, Viera, and Nasri on the squad.

We have to forget the past and move on. I believe that France can win this WC if we can actually form a team. First of all, everyone needs to heal. Next, we need to figure out who is going to start, and who will sub on. Last, I think we need a true captain, or a hero, someone that the team can build on. I thought Henry could be the one, but he gets too much negative attention now. I believe that if APG were older, he would be exactly what we need. I can't wait to see him in his prime.

Bottom line, we need to schedule friendlies, the more the merrier. And preferably one against the USA, because I would like to, once and for all, prove that France can beat America. Also I would love it to be in the USA on the eastern coast so I can watch it!

Unfortunately Les Bleus, like all nations, are constrained by the international schedules. So I think you can expect 2 more friendlies next Spring and then probably 3 matches in preparation for the World Cup. The next official match will be a friendly against Spain on March 3rd in Paris, that should be a good one! As for the US, I doubt you will see that prior to the World Cup. However, I would not be surprised if there was a France v USA friendly in 2011 once France switches kit maker from Adidas to Nike...
